Ever Since Ibn Saud reigned as the first King of Saudi Arabia, between the early 1930’s and the early 1950’s, the House of Saud was led by cautious, conservative and quite elderly Monarchs. They knew that the Kingdom was weak, prone to attacks by powerful and oil-thirsty neighbors and walking a fine line in its domestic policy vis-a-vis thousands of Royalty, officials who made the economy function and a less and less patient public. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman set out to break the paradigm. He is ambitious, energetic, and assertive to the point of brutality. His agenda now includes a Nuclear program and deeper involvement in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
