When the new Defense Secretary, retired General Austin, reached his office at the Pentagon two days after President Biden’s inauguration, he immediately had two intelligence briefings, first on China and then on the Middle East. Then he started calling colleagues around the world, starting with the Secretary General of NATO, then the British Defence Secretary, the Japanese one and their South Korean counterpart. Israel and the rest of the Middle East had to wait their turn. It signaled the order of priorities for this fresh Administration - NATO and East Asia first. What does that mean for the Washington-Jerusalem relationship, as the region awaits the set up if the entire Biden team and its policy initiatives, vis-a-vis Iran and elsewhere?
