The jury is still out on the relative success of President Recep Tayep Erdogan in his efforts to improve or at least maintain Turkey’s position in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Levant, going into the G-20 conference and its side talks in Rome last weekend. Apparently, Erdogan managed to avoid further friction and emerged from his meetings with Presidents Biden and Macron and other leaders with positive atmospherics, but on substance new agreements are yet to take shape. First aid is being administeted, in painful military and diplomatic situations, but no radical treatment leading to recovery has been outlined. So where does Turkey stand today vis-a-vis the United States, Russia, Syria and Greece, among other forces demanding Erdogan’s attention?
