The Iran-Saudi deal vs Israel’s regional integration
In the 1970’s, Iran was openly allied with the United States and less openly with Israel, and the Shah was tasked by Washington in helping Saudi Arabia from falling into the Soviet orbit. Decades later, Iran is hostile to Americans and Israelis alike and Saudi Arabia is openly allied with Washington against Iran and less openly with Jerusalem. And now a deal between Riyadh and Tehran, brokered by Beijing, which seems to have once again changed the contours of the Middle East. Is that really so? Has the American pivot to the Far East given China, as well as Russia, an opening in this region? And if this move is not merely tactical and reversible, should Israel be concerned or encouraged by it?
To analyse it, we are joined by Col. (Res.) Reuven Ben-Shalom, TV7 Powers-in-Play Panelist, Cross-Cultural Strategist and Associate at ICT, Reichman University, Dr. Meir Javedanfar, Iran lecturer, Reichman University, Amir Oren TV7 Editor at large. Host Miri Eisen.
