Following his own three decades as dictator, his son Bashar has clung to power now for twenty-one years, half of which contained a bloody civil war mixed with foreign interventions. With Russia, Turkey, the United States, Iran and Israel all involved in moves and operations, along with Kurds, various opposition groups and a beaten but not gone Islamic State, what is the state of affairs in this war-torn country?
