Syria: A desperate attempt to glue a torn country
Earlier this week, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu declared that his government would insist on demilitarising the Southern Syria territory between Damascus and the Golan Heights border, in order to avert any takeover by hostile forces. He also mentioned the top of Mount Hermon, on the Syrian side, as a high ground that Israel would defensively keep for the time being. Meanwhile, his Defense Minister, Israel Katz, singled out the Druze community as having a special relationship with Israel, indicating that the IDF will not let the new Regime under Ahmed A-Shara impose its rule over it.
