Around 15 to 20 years ago, the world’s defense organisations, military services and intelligence agencies started exploring the challenges and opportunities of cyber operations, and Israel was among a handful of leading nations in this innovative domain. However, others have now caught up, and the relatively new field of artificial intelligence is generating more excitement than the presumed Israeli excellence in both offensive and defensive cyber operations. The latter did not prevent the October 7 atrocity from taking place, which was perpetrated by an enemy far less equipped. So was cyber a passing fad, overtaken now by other advancements in technology, or is it still an art, relevant in today's world and just waiting for the right circumstances to showcase it's full capabilities?
