This has been one of these weeks which seem peculiar to Israel, moving from the down-to-earth bargaining of politics to somber and then joyous ceremonies of national commemoration and celebration. As the country marked its Memorial and Independence days, there was a short respite in the efforts to cobble together a Knesset coalition able to support a functioning government.
