Iran's Push for Influence in the Arabian Peninsula and Horn of Africa : Israel at War
When Iran looks westward, it sees only Arabs - Iraq in the North and Saudi Arabia and the Persian or Arabian Gulf in the south. Further west lies Jordan, Syria and Israel in the north and Egypt and the Horn of Africa in the south. It therefore appears to be part of the Islamic Republic’s grand plan to penetrate both the Peninsula and the Horn, in order to gain additional bases of operation against Iran’s adversaries, primarily Israel and the US Central Command.
What is the strategy behind this, and is it indeed a real cause for concern?
