When Rafael Mariano Grossi visited Washington, last month, for talks at the State Department and on Capitol Hill, the IAEA Director-General devoted only part of his presentation to the questionable future of the Iran Nuclear deal. North Korea and the climate crisis loomed equally large on his horizon. Perhaps that is because the Vienna-based agency’s portfolio is limited to fact finding, verification and monitoring. But that is too narrow a scope out of which to look at the Mideast regional implications, both conventional and non-conventional, of Iran’s nuclear activities.
