In 1981 and 2007, Israel acted alone against Arab nuclear efforts. The strikes at the Iraqi and Syrian reactors were undertaken out of the blue and their limited nature helped convince Saddam Hussein and Bashar Assad to abstain from retaliation. This is not expected to be the case if Israel decides to send its Air Force to take out the Iranian Nuclear infrastructure. War is certain to ensue and spread to the Israeli rear, as well as to Gulf countries allied with the West. So if the task is beyond Israel’s means, can it trust friendly countries, headed by the United States, to help it defend against the Iranian response?
