Alleged war crimes accusations during operation protective edge
The high civilian casualties during the fighting in Operation Protective Edge raised international alarm, which prompted a United Nations inquiry into allegations of war crimes, perpetrated by Israel and the Islamist Hamas group which controls the Gaza Strip.
The month long conflict, marked the ongoing rocket fire towards Israel’s civilian population, while on the other hand - devastating wide tracts of densely populated areas have been destroyed in the Palestinian enclave. As the intense fighting calmed down, the Palestinian Authority announced its intention to approach the International Criminal Court, a move that would open the door for Palestinians to press charges against the Jewish state on alleged war crimes.
