Israel never had any designs against Iran. The two nations are neither neighbors with competing claims nor natural rivals as regional powers. The Persians, along with the Azeri minority and other communities, are Muslims but not Arabs. For several decades, when Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi ruled Iran, Tehran and Jerusalem were de-facto members of the same pro-Western alliance.
It was only when the Ayatollahs toppled the Shah and the regime became fanatically Islamic that Iran started to wage war against Israel.
