The Islamic State of Iraq and Levant, known also as ISIS, ISIL or just the Islamic State, has continued to secure lands in both Iraq and Syria, with many tribes and other Islamist organizations announcing their support, while pledging allegiance to their ultimate leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.
A military coalition led by the United States, to battle the growing extremist group, began striking military positions since August of 2014, in an attempt to halt the groups’ gains. Since then, more countries have joined the battle against the brutal organization, which has not shown signs of slowing down.
